Regional National museum is one of the regional units of the National Museum of Natural History, which was set up to educate people to preserve the natural treasures of the country. A variety of models, audio visual aids, diorama et al. along with theme-based participatory and interactive exhibits can be found at this museum. All of these give visitors a glimpse into the rich flora and fauna and geological wealth found in the southern part of India. There are many sections in the museum including tropical rain forests, wetlands, mangrove forests and marine life. A fascinating model of blue whale and a big panel showing the Kaveri River (considered as the lifeline of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka) are among the notable features of this museum. There is also an exquisite exhibit panel depicting reckless killings of innocent creatures. This panel has been put on display with an intention to create consciousness regarding the same.
